The Alabama Department of Environmental Management has made $1,052,000 in financial assistance available to the Green Pond Water System using funds from the FY 2008 Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) loan program. In accordance with State and Federal regulations that govern the program, the Alabama Department of Environmental Management has conducted a review to assess the potential impacts upon the environment that may result from implementation of this project.

The project consists of development of a new drinking water well and treatment facility for the Green Pond Water System. This new well, the Paravacini Well, is expected to have a capacity of 500 to 1,000 gallons per minute (gpm). Also included in the project will be the refurbishment of the off line 300,000 gallon Mountain Top Drive Tank; installation of an altitude valve for the tank; and installation of water mains to establish a loop north of I-20/59.

The Department has determined that the proposed project will not have a significant adverse impact on the environment and consequently is herewith issuing a Finding Of No Significant Impact (FONSI) to support the use of DWSRF funds for the construction of the proposed project.

However, this determination may be reconsidered if significant adverse information concerning the potential environmental impacts of the proposed project is discovered. Attached is an Environmental Assessment that details the proposed project and its impact upon the environment. Comments relative to this project should be submitted in writing to Mr. Chris Strickland, SRF and Operator Certification Section, General Services Branch, Permits and Services Division, Alabama Department of Environmental Management, P.O. Box 301463, Montgomery, Alabama 36130, no later than 30 days after the date of this FONSI. The Department will not take formal action to proceed with the proposed project without carefully evaluating any public comments concerning funding of the proposed project.
