NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY OF PROPOSED
REVISIONS THE STATE SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN (SWMP), FOR PUBLIC REVIEW AND
COMMENT.
The Alabama Department of Environmental
Management is offering for public review and comments the proposed revisions to
the state Solid Waste Management Plan
(SWMP). The SWMP was originally developed in two phases; Phase I was
completed in November 1989, and Phase II of the Plan was completed in April
1991. Both phases of the SWMP were
adopted by the Alabama Environmental Management Commission to the extent
allowed by law, as appendices to the state’s solid waste program regulations in
March 2002. Periodic revisions to the SWMP are to be made pursuant to the
requirements of the Solid Wastes Disposal Act, Ala. Code § 22-27-45, (2006
Rplc. Vol.).
This proposed document is intended to
provide updated information both on the quantities of solid waste generated,
disposed, and recycled in the State, as well as on the programs being
implemented to manage these activities.
Additionally, the proposed Plan would outline the mechanisms to be used
to evaluate local solid waste management and recycling programs.
Copies of the proposed Plan can be
found at no cost on the Internet at http://www.adem.state.al.us/PublicNotice/PublicNotice.htm.
Copies of the proposed Plan are available at a cost of $0.30 per page at each
